London, June 13 (ANI): English actress Emma Thompson is set to tackle Londons knife crime with the help of an organisation set up in the wake of the Warrington bomb.

The 49-year-old actress has been in touch with the Warrington Peace Centre, where the Tim Parry Jonathan Ball Trust was set up in memory of the two children killed in the 1993 bomb.

Im trying to get them down and connected to schools in London because they do resolution conflict classes with incredibly difficult people, The Sun quoted Thompson, as saying.

They started it with Catholics and Protestants from Belfast and have dealt with some really hard stuff. Thats what we need conflict resolution classes in schools.

You cant sort it from above. You have to give the children some responsibility and say, Right, how do we solve this together? she added.

While speaking at a pioneering school in Londons Bethnal Green, Thompson also hit out at the governments approach towards tackling youth crime.

One way you cant do it is some Government thing from above saying Lets criminalise everybody, she said.

Thats just rubbish. It wont work, so dont even think about doing that. We need to get in right at the beginning. Think about single parents, whether they need help, all of this stuff starts so early, she added.

The Oscar winning actress also criticised Hollywood filmmakers for making films too old for the target audience.

I take my daughter to the cinema and there are so few films for kids, said the actress, she said.

Some of the Hollywood blockbusters, like Toy Story, are marvellous but theres a lot of stuff out there which I cant stomach.

They are films that claim to be for children but are clearly designed for teenagers so that you end up watching something where the first word out of anyones mouth is S***. Thats one aspect of our problem, she added. (ANI)
