Emirates to operate 12 flights from Kolkata
November 16th, 2009 - 5:04 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Kolkata, Nov 16 (IANS) Dubai-based Emirates Airline is all set to increase its weekly flights to 12 from the city from Dec 3, a company official said here Monday.
“We operate seven flights weekly currently, up from six when we started three years back,” said the carrier’s eastern India sales manager Geetika Seth.
“Now we will have two flights daily except on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, when we will have one flight a day,” Seth told reporters at a press meet.
Asked about the company’s plans for the region at a time when many international airlines have withdrawn flights because of falling occupancy rates, she replied her company was “trying to take advantage of the current opportunity”.
According to her, many Emirates flyers use Dubai as a stopover destination on way to cities such as London, Zurich, Johannesburg and Cape Town.
As a result, Seth said, the carrier had an 80 percent daily occupancy on an average.
