Dubai, July 28 (IANS) The United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) national carrier Emirates airline Monday took possession of the first of the 58 Airbus A380 jumbo aircraft it had placed orders for. Emirates chairman and chief executive officer Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al-Maktoum attended the function to take possession of the aircraft at Airbus’s Jurgen Thomas A380 Delivery Centre in Hamburg, according to an Emirates statement here.
“We have stood firm on our commitment to the A380,” Sheikh Ahmed said while accepting the aircraft.
“Our investment in the aircraft, including engines and inflight features, exceeds 32 billion euros, with 12 billion euros spent in Germany alone,” he added while congratulating the aircraft maker for making “greener, cleaner, quieter, smarter aircraft”.
Also present in the function were president of Emirates airline Tim Clark, Airbus chief executive Tom Enders, former Engine Alliance president Bruce Hughes and ‘founding father’ of the A380 J
