New York, Dec 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Nielsen Co. said today that is shutting down the legendary Editor & Publisher. It is a publication that has been around for numerous decades, so it is quite a shock to learn about its sudden closure. Editor & Publisher has chronicled issues in newspapers for 108 years and Kirkus was started in 1933 by Virginia Kirkus, who used to head the children’s book department of Harper & Bros once upon a time, before starting her own publication.

Thursday’s closure of Editor & Publisher “was a shock,” editor Greg Mitchell told the AP. “We knew that something big was happening but we didn’t think the aftermath was that … it would be folded.” In 2003, Editor & Publisher turned from a weekly to a monthly format. And being in tune with the times, it also made its presence felt on the Internet too.

Kirkus and Editor & Publisher had a total of 18 employees combined. Actually to many people, its demise was not a surprise as its subscriber base and classified advertisement base had decreased over the years.

Editor & Publisher has been in print since 1901, but it reportedly it evolved out of a magazine called the Journalist that had launched in 1884. So it had a pretty nice run of more than a century even finally it folded away.
