Chennai, Sep 6 (IANS) Following the success of its supercharger fitted in Nissan cars made here for export, the Indian arm of US-based diversified industrial products manufacturer Eaton Corporation is talking to various small car manufacturers for selling the product.

“We are in discussion with several car manufacturers making sub-two litre petrol engines for our superchargers. The component delivers more power and better fuel economy. Further, it enables reduction in engine size, resulting in saving space under the bonnet,” Ramachandra Rao, executive director, automotive, at Eaton Industrial Systems Pvt Ltd, told IANS.

While it is understood from company officials that Eaton is talking with Tata Motors for supplying superchargers for the Nano cars, Rao declined to confirm or deny it. He said Japanese car company Nissan Motor rolls out small car at its plant here.

“The cars exported for Europe are fitted with superchargers. The cars for Indian market do not have our component,” he added.

Citing the Nissan contract, Rao said it is one case of global coordination.

“The engineering design of the superchargers was made in the US and India. The product is manufactured in Poland and the customer development (Nissan) happened in Japan. And the engine is made in India and Japan by Nissan,” Rao said.

Eaton Tuesday launched its variable valve trains for the high speed overhead camshaft engines.

The product is expected to be used by several of the global automotive players in India.

“This move will enhance our business presence in the market and compliment the wide product portfolio that already exists in the country,” Raja Kochar, managing director India, Eaton Corporation, told reporters here Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Eaton is planning to enter the power distribution business in a major way next year as one of its strategy to triple the Indian revenue to $500 million by 2015.

“We see a big opportunity in the electrical space in India. We will make an important announcement next January,” Kochar said. He said the company is looking at both brown- and greenfield expansions in the electrical component segment.

Kochar said the company is in the process of increasing localisation of its products in the electrical, hydraulic and automotive segments.
