Eastern Railway earnings up 8.63 percent
June 15th, 2011 - 9:04 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, June 15 (IANS) The Eastern Railway (ER) Wednesday posted a 8.63 percent increase in its total earnings during April-May 2011, which stood at Rs.873.44 crore, as against Rs.804 crore earned in the corresponding period last fiscal.
According to an official statement, Rs.588.35 crore was earned from goods traffic, while Rs.249.93 crore came from passenger traffic, Rs.29.57 crore from other coaching and Rs.5.59 from sundry earnings.
The ER carried 18.83 crore passengers during April-May 2011, as against 17.58 crore passengers carried during the corresponding period of previous fiscal, registering an increase of over seven percent.
It also managed to raise its freight traffic to 9.288 million tonnes during the period under review, as against 8.876 million tonnes during the corresponding months last year.
