Eastern Railway earnings rise by 3.51 percent
February 22nd, 2011 - 3:38 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Feb 22 (IANS) Eastern Railway posted a 3.51 percent increase in its total earnings to Rs.3,961.18 crore during April 2010-January 2011 as against Rs.3,826.75 crore during the corresponding period last fiscal, a release said.According to the release, Rs.2604.82 crore earnings came from goods traffic, Rs.1,181.19 crore from passenger traffic and Rs.128.16 crore from other coachings.
Eastern Railway carried 92.58 crore passengers from April 2010 to January 2011 as against 84.11 crore passengers carried during the corresponding period of previous fiscal, registering a 10 percent increase.
It also managed to raise its freight traffic to 44.238 million tonnes during April 2010-January 2011 against 43.112 million tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
