DSIIDC wants service sector in industrial estates
January 1st, 2012 - 2:43 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 1 (IANS) If the central government gives its green signal, service industry can come up in the industrial estates of Delhi, DSIIDC chairman Chetan Sanghi said Sunday.
The Delhi State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corp (DSIIDC) has made the appeal to the central government and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), he said here.
As of now, service industry is barred by law from coming up in Delhi’s industrial estates. “We believe it should be a permissible activity,” he said.
“The Transferable Development Rights, height restrictions of industrial buildings and housing needs of industrial estates should also be integrated with the development of industrial estates,” he said.
“This is what we have recommended to the government of India and DDA.”
Sanghi added that the Narela and Bawana industrial estates, the biggest in the capital, had been given to private concessionaires to upgrade their infrastructure and maintain their services for the next 15 years.
This has been done under Public Private Partnership (PPP) method.
“Work has started on the ground. Patparganj and Okhla also will be given on PPP in the next three months,” said Sanghi, who is also the company’s managing director.
He said Delhi’s Lt. Governor had directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to transfer the industrial estates to the DSIIDC.
“The DDA has also agreed to transfer the lease administration, and the taking over process by DSIIDC is in progress.”
Sanghi said the design of the much talked about Knowledge Park in Delhi had been approved, and the DDA had approved the land use change.
The MCD was considering the building plans, he added. “Work should start by June 2012.”
He said Delhi’s young manpower needed extensive skill building efforts. “This is why we have encouraged new skill development courses and promoted efforts to test proficiency in skills through our subsidiary, ICSIL.”
Sanghi said DSIIDC has also suggested to the central government the construction of over 20,000 dormitory spaces for industrial workers. This, he said, would partly solve the problem of homelessness in Delhi.
He said DSIIDC’s plans for 2012 included stabilizing the activities of its new four subsidiaries, promoting the Multi Level Manufacturing Hub at Rani Khera and consolidating DSIIDC’s IT arm (ICSIL).
