Drivers to blame for most accidents
October 20th, 2011 - 10:08 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct 20 (IANS) Drivers are to blame for most road accidents in India, a report said Thursday, followed by mistakes by pedestrians as well as poor roads.
The ministry of road transport and highways has undertaken an audit of select stretches of national highways and expressways to strengthen road safety on highways.
The audit found that in 78.5 percent of cases, road accidents occur because of driver’s fault.
Some of the other factors are fault of pedestrians (2.2 percent), fault of cyclists (1.2 percent), defects in roads (1.3 percent), defects in condition of motor vehicle (1.8 percent), weather conditions (0.8 percent) and others (14.2).
