New Delhi, Dec 10 (IANS) Corporate India is increasingly getting affected by the global downturn, with a number of companies either freezing completely or halving their recruitment plans, a survey by global employment service provider Manpower Inc said Wednesday. The survey released Wednesday said only 19 percent employers have positive hiring plans in the next quarter (January-March). This figure represents a considerable fall of 24 percentage points from the present quarter and 27 percentage points from a year earlier.

“Though hiring intentions remain positive, Indian employers are reporting a much slower hiring pace as compared to the last quarter and year,” Manpower India managing director Naresh Malhan said.

However, the report added that India would still remain one of the most actively hiring nations in the quarter.

Added Malhan: “The times may seem challenging but the employment scenario in the country is not as gloomy as the rest of the world.”

The mining and construction sector is the most optimistic sector with 23 percent employers having positive hiring plans, the survey said.
