Dikshit wants share in NCR toll tax collection
November 5th, 2009 - 7:36 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Nov 5 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Thursday said that the national capital should get some share in the toll tax collected at Noida and Gurgaon.
“Delhi gets more cars from Noida and Gurgaon than what they get from our side. They have toll bridges at Noida and Gurgaon from which they get money. They use our roads, our services but we don’t get anything,” Dikshit said while speaking at the release of Delhi’s action plan for tackling climate change.
“We don’t get any share. There needs to be some system of sharing. We need funds very badly. We hesitate to ask for more funds from the centre. But the time has come now when we cannot increase taxes on our citizens anymore,” Dikshit added.
The chief minister stated that it will be best if Delhi gets a share to upgrade its services.
Thousands of people use the two toll plazas daily for coming into and going from Delhi.
However, Dikshit praised Noida and Gurgaon for sharing the burden of the migrants coming to the national capital every year.
“Every year nearly half a million people come to Delhi. But I shudder to think what will happen in next few years. Gurgaon and Noida have been a great help to us. There needs to be some system of commonality for the NCR area. We have no space any more,” Dikshit added.
