New Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS) Inaugurating a power sub-station at Mundka in northwest Delhi, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Wednesday said she is “committed to provide uninterrupted power supply” to Delhiites and dreams of making the capital an “inverter-free city”.

Dikshit said there has been an immense progress in the power sector in the last 12 years and pointed out that Delhi government is committed to providing “sufficient and reliable” power supply to the city.

She said an effort has been made to generate more electricity in the vicinity of the national capital and with a joint venture between National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Haryana government, Delhi will get nearly 750 MW of power.

The Mundka sub-station will receive power at 400 KV level from Jhajjar super thermal power station. The sub-station has been erected at a cost of Rs.150 crore and nearly 100 acres of land was provided for the purpose.

Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta said a ring is being created in the Northern region with which the Mundka sub-station will be linked.

“The power position in Delhi will further improve with the commissioning of this ring. Also, the sub-station will lead to power supply in west and northwest Delhi besides Delhi Metro,” Mehta said.

Realising that much of power is lost in the transmission process, Dikshit recently asked the private power distributing companies to cut down transmission losses so that the tariff need not be raised and there is uninterrupted power supply in the capital.
