Dikshit to travel to Tokyo for Asian cities’ summit
November 5th, 2010 - 6:18 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 5 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit will be in Tokyo on a four-day visit from Saturday to attend a summit on development of major Asian cities, including the Indian capital.
Dikshit is leading a five-member delegation to the Japanese capital for ninth plenary meeting of Asian Network of Major Cities (ANMC), an official said Friday.
The Nov 7-10 summit will focus on environment, urban planning, promotion of arts, culture and tourism, human resource development, education, women development, health, disaster prevention management and technology development.
“Dikshit is accompanied by Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta, Principal Secretary P.K. Tripathi, Private Secretary in Urban Development Ministry B.V. Selvaraj and Director of Information Keshav Chandra,” the official told IANS.
The concept of Asian Network of Major Cities, popularly known as ANMC-21, was eveolved in the first meeting of the four cities, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, Seoul and Delhi, in the Malaysian capital in 2000.
The idea was to provide an opportunity for Asia to establish a new identity and to develop independently as a world leader.
Eight other cities - namely Bankok, Beijing, Hanoi, Jakarta, Manila, Singapore, Taipei and Yangon - subsequently joined as members of the initiative.
