Dikshit orders swift action on power cuts
June 22nd, 2010 - 9:10 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, June 22 (IANS) With Delhi experiencing frequent power cuts in the midst of a harsh summer, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Tuesday asked the power distribution companies to act swiftly on “no current” complaints.
There is ample power in the city to meet the demand and the government will not take outages lightly, Dikshit said adding that it would like to see that there is no interruption in normal power supply.
At 4,668 MW, the power demand in the Indian capital Monday rose to the highest level.
At a meeting to review the current power situation in the city against the backdrop of frequent power cuts, she said the problem is mainly due to local power faults and underlined the need for an urgent solution to these.
“Any casual attitude in attending to such complaints will not be tolerated,” Dikshit told the three power distribution companies (discoms) - BSES Yamuna, BSES Rajdhani and North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL).
The chief minister further instructed the discoms to provide alternative cables in case fault repairs take long, saying the move will provide relief to consumers.
“There should be a special arrangement to respond to local fault complaints during night. There is need for proper functioning of all call centres by deploying senior executives and extra telephone lines,” she added.
