Vadodara, March 20 (IANS) Diamond Power Infrastructure Ltd has bagged a Rs.620 million rural electrification contract for erection and commissioning of distribution lines for the entire Bhavnagar district in Gujarat, the company announced Wednesday. Company chairman S.N. Bhatnagar told IANS the turnkey job has been awarded under the Rajiv Gandhi Vidyuthikaran Yojana (RGGY).

He said the contract envisages the erection of distribution lines over a distance of 383 km so that electricity reaches 21,295 consumers through 139 transformer centres.

The project is expected to be completed in 22 months from the date of award of the project. The project is in addition to the already existing contracts for Vadodara and Anand District of Gujarat. The company has manufacturing operations located in Vadodara, about 110 km from here.

Bhatnagar said Diamond Power Infrastructure was established in 1970 as a cable and conductors company but it has now evolved from a purely product based unit into a comprehensive one-stop solutions provider.

“In the process we are now the country’s foremost power solutions company delivering everything from engineering project contract services to providing almost all types of power equipment in the transmission and distribution space,” he said.

“With large capacities in conductors (India’s second largest), power cables (India’s third largest), power and distribution transformers (India’s third largest), we are all set to be the country’s largest transmission and distribution equipment manufacturer,” he added.

Last year the company acquired Mumbai-based Western Transformers and Apex Electricals.

It is also setting up a new project to manufacture transmission towers at village Haripura, in Savli taluka of Vadodara district. With an investment of Rs.320 million, the plant will have a manufacturing capacity of 48,000 tonnes a year.

The company has acquired land for the plant and the project is expected to be operational before March 2009.

It has also embarked on a Rs.380 million expansion project to produce low tension aerial bunched cables as well as power cables. It has acquired land next to its existing facility at village Vadadala in Savli Taluka in Vadodara district.
