Shimla, Oct 15 (IANS) With Himachal Pradesh facing a power shortage due to low generation in hydropower plants, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal Saturday called a meeting here to review the situation, officials said.

He directed the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) Ltd to make necessary arrangement to ensure uninterrupted power supply to both domestic and commercial consumers.

Board officials were told to monitor the generation in the state-run projects, besides effectively checking transmission and distribution losses.

The board’s own generation from the hydropower projects has come down by 50 percent this month, from 110 lakh units to 53 lakh units, with the setting in of winter and freezing of glaciers and water bodies in the state.

“The power situation will improve from Sunday as the state will start getting 60 MW of power from Punjab daily. Similarly, Delhi will start returning the borrowed power to the state from Oct 20. It will provide 80 MW daily,” an HPSEB Ltd official said.
