Department of Energy Business: Government to gradually raise LPG priceJuly 14th, 2008 - 3:05 pm ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi
The Director-General of the Department of Energy Business, Mr. Metta Bantherngsuk (เมตตา บันเทิงสุข), says the government will likely float the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) price after pegging it for over 10 years. He says the government will raise the LPG price step by step.
As for the price of cooking gas for the household sector, Mr. Metta says the government is still considering the matter, and the Ministry of Energy will make the final decision. However, he refuses to reveal further information as business operators may start hoarding LPG, which may lead to its shortage in the market.
Moving to natural gas vehicle (NGV), Mr. Metta says PTT Public Company Limited is heavily campaigning people to use this type of alternative energy. He says the company is expanding its NGV stations nationwide.
The Department of Energy Business, meanwhile, is discussing the LPG distribution project for household and transport sectors (July 14th).
