May 27, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Dennis Quaid and his wife, Kimberly Buffington, are suing the pharmaceutical organization, Baxter Healthcare, accusing it of perpetrating carelessness. The suing is occurring as the twins of Quaid and Buffington, Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace, were supplied an almost deadly overdose of Heparin in 2007.

What happened was that the medical workforce of Cedars-Sinai was bamboozled by the labels on the dissimilar bottles of the aforementioned anti-coagulant drug, Heparin. The medical workforce bequeathed 10000 units in place of the 10 units of Heparin that the toddlers were meant to get. The kids of Quaid, only 2 weeks old then, underwent harmful reactions in the aftermath of the overdose of Heparin.

In the litigation launched by Quaid, it has been stated that the two bottles of Heparin were virtually identical vis-à-vis their color, size and façade. There existed no distinctive symbols or data resting on the cover. The litigation has alleged that this reprehensible laxness of Baxter Healthcare was wholly stoppable and it was also predictable. A mistake was waiting to happen as the inadequately prepared bottles were likely to lead to befuddlement in the minds of the medical staff. Therefore, Baxter Healthcare is culpable.

The litigation has also asserted that the toddlers of Quaid, by reason of the overdose of Heparin, have had to endure bodily damage that may procreate grave complications in the future.

Quaid now desires an inquiry by a jury as well as reimbursement of his medical expenditures, payment of undetermined as well as general reparation and the attorneys’ remuneration. It must be mentioned that Cedars-Sinai had settled the matter by providing Quaid $50,000 in 2009 and guaranteeing gratis medical care to his kids if they undergo unpleasant repercussions in the future linked to the overdose of Heparin.
