New Delhi, Dec 20 (IANS) An association of city traders has written to Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal demanding a special security for them in the light of increasing incidents of traders being targeted by robbers.
The traders, under the banner of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), expressed concern over increasing incidents of traders being robbed and assaulted in the capital.
“Continuous occurring of such incidents is a depiction of the criminal courage of the anti-social elements, which needs to be curbed in order to restore the confidence of the people and business community in particular,” said CAIT secretary Praveen Khandelwal, according to a statement.
On Saturday, one trader was killed and two other men were injured in a daring daylight robbery attempt by five motorcycle-borne assailants in the crowded Sadar Bazar market area.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader V.K. Malhotra Sunday said if union Home Minister P. Chidambaram finds himself unable to control the situation, he should tender his resignation.
“The responsibility for law and order in Delhi rests with the union home minister. Delhi has been facing a spate of killings, dacoity, kidnapping, rape, thefts and chain snatching incidents which have shaken the confidence of the people over time, but in the last few weeks, incidents of dacoity and murder in open have terrorised Delhiites,” he said, according to a statement issued by the BJP.
