Delhi traders protest higher VAT
March 27th, 2010 - 8:51 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 27 (IANS) Thousands of traders in the capital Saturday shut their shops till 1 p.m. to protest the Delhi government’s decision to hike Value Added Tax (VAT) on diesel and various other items.
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), which called the shutdown, demanded their rollback.
“The protest is to show our dissatisfaction with the increase in VAT slabs,” said Praveen Khandelwal, the CAIT secretary general. “(Because of this), trade will shift to neighbouring states.”
