July 9th, 2009 - 9:33 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 9 (IANS) The power shortage in the capital will stay for at least another seven months and the situation will only improve after power projects planned for the 2010 Commonwealth Games start, union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said Thursday.
“The power demand in Delhi has increased to 4,400 MW against the usual 3,500 MW per day. The power shortage is likely to stay for 7-8 months. The UPA government has been taking steps for production of more power,” Shinde told reporters here.
Delhi’s power demand had Wednesday reached new high when it was recorded at 4,408 MW.
The power minister said Delhi would be a power-surplus state after the forthcoming Commonwealth Games.
“The commissioning of electricity generation projects including Dadri, Jhajjar, Mejia and Pragati, is planned before the games,” he said.
The power demand Thursday was recorded at 4,399 MW. “There was no loadshedding and the demand was completely met,” a Delhi Transco Ltd. official told IANS.
