Delhi Metro’s Central Secretariat-Qutub Minar line to open Friday
August 31st, 2010 - 10:27 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 31 (IANS) Come Friday and commuters from north Delhi will be able to easily travel to the capital’s satellite town of Gurgaon as Delhi Metro’s Jahangirpuri-Huda City centre corridor will become fully operational with the opening of the Central Secretariat-Qutub Minar section.
The metro service between Jahangirpuri and Central Secretariat and from Qutub Minar to Huda City centre have been operational since quite some time.
Now, a 12.53 km-long connecting line between Central Secretariat and Qutub Minar will be opened Friday.
“The distance from Jahangirpuri to Huda City centre will be covered in about an hour and 20 minutes at the cost of Rs.29 per trip,” a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson said.
“The commissioner for Metro Rail Safety - R.K. Kardam - Tuesday completed his inspection of the corridor and will give a formal clearance in this regard soon,” he added.
The new section will be inaugurated by Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy in the presence of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Friday.
With the opening of the line, the total operational metro network will be 138 km with a total of 117 stations.
