ndhinagar, Jan 13 (IANS) Delhi Metro will float a global tender to partner with a foreign player for a proposed third phase of expansion, which it plans to begin by April. It will also be submitting a formal proposal to the Gujarat government to bring a similar service to Ahmedabad. “We are hoping to get the final nod from the government in March or April and in parallel, we have already started working on preparatory measures like surveys. Once the government approval is there, we will go for a global tender for partnership around the same time,” said Mangu Singh, director (Works) of Delhi Metro, who is here in connection with the two-day Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit.

“So far, we have created radials in and around Delhi. In Phase-III, we are proposing circles connecting these radials. This will provide more interchange points and flexibility to travellers,” Singh added.

The third phase of the Delhi Metro, which is likely to have an investment of around Rs.25,000 crore, is expected to add another 65 km to the Metro network in the national capital.

The project was approved in-principle by the Delhi government in October 2010 after suggesting some amendments to cover more areas on the Outer Ring Road and the Inner Ring Road.

One of the important features of Phase-III will be that there will be 23 interchange stations to ensure seamless connectivity.

Some 16 lakh passengers travel by the Metro everyday.
