Delhi government to build 35,000 flats for poor
February 3rd, 2011 - 12:04 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Feb 2 (IANS) The Delhi government Wednesday said around 35,000 flats would be built for the economically weaker sections in the city, adding that they would be ready in two years.In a high-level meeting with officials of the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) and Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), Urban Development Minister A.K. Walia said the flats will be constructed at Pooth Khurd, Tikri and Savda Ghevra areas in northwest Delhi.
The flats will be constructed under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission at a cost of Rs.1,900 crore, Walia said after the meeting.
“The three projects relating to construction of around 35,000 flats are given to the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd (HUDCO),” he said.
While DSIIDC will construct 18,760 flats at Pooth Khurd at an estimated cost of Rs.1,020 crore, it will also build 8,420 flats at Tikri at an estimated cost of Rs.465 crore.
Walia said that DUSIB will undertake construction of 7,620 flats in Savda Ghevra-III at an estimated cost of Rs.408 crore.
