Damodar Valley Corp shuts three units of Mejia power stationDecember 17th, 2008 - 10:35 pm ICT by IANS
Kolkata, Dec 17 (IANS) Power producer Damodar Valley Corp (DVC) shut down three units at its Mejia Thermal Power Station (MTPS) with a total installed capacity of 710 MW, a DVC official said Wednesday. The closure was necessitated by the malfunctioning of the electrostatic precipitators (ESP) in the three units, and this happened because the local people have not allowed the DVC to evacuate the fly ash that was generated by the units, he said.
“Of the two ash ponds at MTPS, one is more than full while the other is nearly full. We have not been able to dispose of this ash since the local population is not allowing us to do that,” said an engineer from MTPS.
“If this situation continues for long, the entire station may have to be shut down,” the officer said.
