Cuban, Chinese firms to jointly produce television sets
November 14th, 2009 - 3:58 am ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Havana, Nov 14 (Prensa Latina) Chinese electrical appliance company Haier and Cuban Group of Electronics will set up a joint company here to produce television sets, the firms announced Friday.
The company will start operation in the first quarter of 2010. It will also produce laptops and other electricial appliances.
This will be the first time Cuba would manufacture television sets. Currently, TV sets are assembled in the country.
The move is expected to help promote technology development in the country.
Haier is the fourth largest producer of electrical appliances in the world.
Haier vice-president Zhou Yienjie said he was delighted at the prospect of a Haier production centre in Cuba. The two companies began negotiations on the subject in 2004.
