Crops damaged in two Jharkhand districts

Ranchi, Sep 12 (IANS) Standing crops on around 20,000 acres of land were damaged due to floods in two Jharkhand districts, an official said Monday.

Around 8 lakh cusec of water released from Soan river in bordering Bihar submerged around 45 villages and farm land in Palamau and Garwah districts.

“Standing crops in around 20,000 acres of land got damaged due to floods in Palamau and Garwah districts. There are reports that more than 300 animals died in the flood,” an official of the disaster management department told IANS.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda has directed officials to expedite the relief work in flood-affected areas. The district administration is taking help of the army to evacuate people trapped in the flooded areas.

This year, Jharkhand received good rainfall which resulted in around 98 percent paddy and 80 percent maize sowing in the state.
