Shimla, March 22 (IANS) Mumbai-based agri-biotechnology group Credent Organics Tuesday announced its entry into Himachal Pradesh.

It will market a wide range of organic agricultural products for crop protection and yield enhancement.

“We are overwhelmed by the response of farmers and growers in the hill state for adopting organic farming. Even the state government on its own is promoting organic farming,” Rajan Balighate, commercial director of Credent Organics, told reporters here.

He said the company has initially set up 50 farm development centres in the state.

“The centres not only help the farmers to create a sense of awareness towards organic farming but also provide their basic needs like organic seeds, organic fertilisers and organic pesticides,” he added.

Credent Organics has 16 branches in the country and manufacturing units in Pune and Navi Mumbai.

Agriculture is the main occupation of the people in Himachal Pradesh, providing direct employment to 69 percent of its workforce.

More than 80 percent of horticulture and agricultural activities in the state are rainfed.
