Houston, July 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Continental Airlines on Wednesday announced the cancellation of more than 20 flights because several of their pilots called in sick. The company subsequently advised their customers to call the airline and confirm their flights before they get to the various airports.

According to the airline, they operate about 3,000 flights every. Pilots reporting sick has caused the company to cancel 21 of their planned flights. The company however failed to name the particular flights that were affected by the cancellation.

Continental said the affected flights were mainly in the New York area. The airline failed to state the reason why so many of their pilots have reported sick at the same time. The cancelation of the flights will undoubtedly affect several passengers.

Flight cancellation is a very frustrating experience. Passengers who fail to check on their flights before moving to the airport are often left stranded if they realized that their flights are cancelled. The biggest flight cancellations were caused by the Icelandic ash cloud which kept most of the airports in Europe closed down in 2009.

In the United States, all flights were grounded on the 11th of September 2001 shortly after terrorists used passenger aircrafts to kill almost 3,000 people. The planes remained grounded for days.
