Kolkata, Oct 14 (IANS) The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Friday said it was “concerned about” the way regional stock exchanges were functioning in the country.”We in SEBI feel the current manner in which the regional stock exchanges are continuing in this country is serving nobody’s purpose,” SEBI Chairman U.K. Sinha said at an interactive session organised by the Bharat Chamber of Commerce (BCC) here.

“Either we should find a way through which they can equally and actively participate in the market and help investors grow or we should try to give them an honourable exit,” he said.

“We have not been able to take any position on that, because we think this is something which requires extensive consultations,” Sinha said.

He said that for the last three months, the SEBI has been very actively considering various options.

“What we are going to do now is to set up a group in which these (regional) exchanges will also be represented to find a way out. We are also concerned about the way these exchanges are existing today.”
