Communication programme for DTC drivers for Commonwealth Games
September 9th, 2009 - 10:22 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 9 (IANS) With the 2010 Commonwealth Games in mind, a communication and skills training programme for drivers and conductors of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) was inaugurated Wednesday.
“With the collaboration of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), DTC will impart internal training modules on soft skills, basic English language and skill sensitization to DTC drivers and conductors,” said Delhi government’s Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely after inaugurating the programme here.
“In all, 1,500 drivers and conductors have been selected for the 40-day-long first phase of communication and skills training programme,” he added.
Lovely said: “The training module would be useful for drivers and conductors to adopt better manners so that sportspersons and participating officers during the Commonwealth Games might feel more comfortable.”
“The government is also going to strengthen the DTC increasing its fleet to 7,000 by April 2010. DTC will be adding 3,125 low floor CNG buses to its existing fleet,” Lovely said.
Of these, 1,250 buses would be air-conditioned and 1,000 buses would be semi-low floor.
