Commerce Minister: Thailand exported 1.1 million tons of rice in OctoberNovember 23rd, 2007 - 12:35 pm ICT by admin
Bangkok, November 23 (PRD), The Commerce Minister, Mr. Krirkkrai Jirapaet (เกริกไกร จีระแพทย์), says Thailand exported 1.1 million tons of rice last month. The amount was 70 percent higher than the amount in October last year. He says the total amount of exported rice throughout this year should reach the projected target.
Mr. Krirkkrai however says the exported rice last month was lower than its previous month because of inadequate number of cargo ships. Nevertheless, Thailand has exported eight million tons of rice from January to November 20th this year, and the quantity of exported rice has reached 21 percent, yielding a trade surplus of 33 percent.
The Commerce Minister says the external factors, particularly the strong global demand, have supported the rising growth of Thailand’s exported rice. He also believes the country will be able to export more rice than anticipated, from 8.5 million tons to 9 million tons, this year.
