ComED Customers Suffer Power Outage For Hours After Severe Storm Lashes Chicago

Chicago, June 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Over a quarter million people living in Chicago region had to suffer from long power cut after a raging storm lashed the region on Friday evening and left the impact everywhere. Not only the storm uprooted several trees on roads and brought traffic to a standstill, it caused severe disruptions to power supply as the ComEd spokespersons reported.
Krissy Posey, a spokesperson of the company reported that almost 283000 people had to stay without electricity and the outage affected the northern suburbs, city and southern suburbs alike. Even those living in the Western suburbs were not spared. Even though the storms duration was less than an hour the severity was extreme.
The power poles were damaged along with the tress and traffic and power supply were the victims. ComED said on its part that around 250 crews were working to restore power supply to normalcy on an emergency basis. However, the met office has predicted that the city and suburbs can be hit by another storm which can make their task difficult.
The power outage was caused by the severe storm and subsequent rain. The transformers were damaged badly which resulted in the outage affecting residents in various regions around Chicago. They were unprepared for such a development.
The company said that the physical damage to its equipments were critical. It also said that the restoration will require some hours and the customers should be patient. A lot of man hours are required to repair equipments and set things in order the ComEd spokespersons reported.
The public life in suburbs was disrupted for hours owing to these developments.
