Kolkata, Oct 22 (IANS) State-run Coal India Limited (CIL) increased coal dispatches to power utilities across the country by 28 percent during the period Oct 11-20, the company claimed Saturday.

The Maharatna company has supplied 0.85 million tonnes (MT) per day on an average during the period compared to the first ten days of the month, when the dispatch per day hovered around 0.66 MT, it said in a release here.

“Overall coal offtake too was stepped up during the said period to 1.17 MT per day compared to 0.89 MT during the first ten days of the month, registering a growth of 30.8 percent,” it said.

The company has also ramped up its coal production from Oct 11 onwards and during Oct 11-20 the production was 1.13 MT per day on an average compared to 0.95 MT during Oct 1 to 10 this year.

CIL, the largest coal miner in the world, said due to excessive rainfall in August and September this year, coal production and dispatches were badly affected in all subsidiaries of CIL till Oct 10.

Coal supply to power plants were badly affected as the coal giant was unable to meet its target in the first half of the current fiscal, the output falling short by around 20 MT due the adverse weather conditions.

Against the target of 196 MT it could produce only about 176 MT of coal from April to September.
