Clinton to visit Chennai Wednesday
July 19th, 2011 - 1:02 am ICT by IANSChennai, July 18 (IANS) US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who began her three day visit to India Monday, is expected to visit the Tamil Nadu capital Wednesday.
She will be the first serving US secretary of state to visit Chennai, which has American investments from automobile companies like Ford Motor Company, Caterpillar and others.
Officials at the US Consulate here told IANS that Clinton’s Chennai itinerary is yet to be finalised and the media will be informed later.
However, they declined to comment whether Clinton would be meeting the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa and would also visit Ford’s factory.
For a long time, world leaders made a beeline to Bangalore, the information technology (IT) hub, on their India visits.
However, the visit of Clinton to Chennai is expected to make other global leaders to come here, say industry watchers.
