CITU’s transport strike April 13 in West Bengal
April 7th, 2010 - 8:44 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, April 7 (IANS) The labour arm of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) Wednesday called a state-wide transport strike April 13 in West Bengal to protest the hike in petroleum prices across the country.
“We have decided to go on a transport strike April 13 to protest the petroleum price rise. We have been waiting as board exams are on across the state till April 12,” CITU state president Shyamal Chakraborty told a press conference here.
He said the CPI-M had repeatedly requested the centre to check the skyrocketing petrol price.
“But the government did not pay any heed to our words.
“We had, earlier, called strike in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh and now we have no other option but to call a transport strike in this state (West Bengal),” Chakraborty said.
