04072008-chipotlepicFeb 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc has got notice from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for inspection of its restaurant chains in locations like Virginia, Washington, D.C. This news was confirmed by Monty Moran its co-CEO. The new notices come in the wake of the restaurant chain’s Minnesota workers getting dismissed for document ineligibility. The gourmet burrito chain however did not say clearly how many of its workers were shown the door after the earlier ICE inspection. The Minnesota labor leaders are of the opinion at least 700 employees of the chain were fired. The employees who were fired sued the chain saying they were not given their payments within a day of discharge which is a prerequisite under state law.

On Thursday the fired workers resorted to filing a class action lawsuit on the failure of the company to pay their dues in the stipulated time. The number of workers who did not get paid in time is not known and various sources are suggesting conflicting numbers. Denver based Chipotle remained mum on the issue citing company policy issues. However a company representative said that the employees were told to produce acceptable documents to prove they conform to the legal requirements to work in the USA. When they could not do so they were shown the door.

A number of the fired workers have said that they were given too little time to produce documents and the chain fired them without explaining the whole thing. In an e-mailed statement the company retorted that the claims made by these workers in the lawsuit are baseless.
