Beijing, Nov 30 (IANS) A Chinese passenger aircraft with 240 people onboard took off from an airport in Japan even when told by the control tower to wait on the runway, a media report said Wednesday.

Japanese authorities are now investigating the “apparently hazardous” take-off by the Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines plane, the Shanghai Daily reported.

The Japanese air traffic authority said it wants to find out why the plane took off Monday ignoring the order to stay on the runway at the Kansai international airport located on an artificial island in the middle of Osaka Bay.

The control tower said it had ordered the plane to wait on the runway, and that the order was delivered in English.

But the plane suddenly took off when the traffic controllers were communicating with the pilot of a helicopter, officials said.
