Beijing, Dec 20 (IANS) China’s private carmaker Chery Automobile Co. plans to develop cars that enable drivers to control the door, trunk, and headlight functions through their mobile phones without compromising their safety.

Chery’s Vice General Manager Chen Anning said the carmaker has set up a lab with South Korea’s SK Telecom to study the application of Mobile In Vehicle (MIV) telematics service.

The MIV service will also enable drivers to check driving performance and get fuel-related information through the phones, the China Daily reported Tuesday.

Chery is China’s leading private carmaker. Its global sales hit 55,616 units in November, including 13,906 units sold overseas.
