China tops global gold transaction list
June 12th, 2011 - 7:33 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, June 12 (IANS) China has attained the top position in the world in terms of annual gold transaction, says the China Gold Association.
A total of 604.61 metric tonnes of gold changed hands at the Shanghai Gold Exchange last year, the People’s Daily reported.
China produced 340.876 metric tonnes of gold in 2010, remaining the world’s largest gold producing country for the fourth consecutive year.
Global demand for gold totalled 2,778.6 metric tonnes in 2010.
This included 783.4 metric tonnes from India, 571.51 metric tonnes from China and 180.9 metric tons from the US.
