China to build economic zone
July 27th, 2011 - 12:21 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, July 27 (IANS) China plans to build an economic zone in the country’s central Henan province to boost development in the region, a media report said.
The government will issue guidelines in this regard by September, the China Securities Journal reported Tuesday.
Earlier, a team comprising over 30 government departments visited Henan in June to study the construction of the zone.
The zone will cover the Henan province and about eight neighbouring cities, including the provincial capital Zhengzhou. The study is led by the National Development and Reform Committee.
The economic zone is designed as the national grain production base, and will showcase the country’s latest drive in industrialisation, urbanisation and agricultural modernisation, China Daily quoted Yu Xin’an, head of the Henan Academy of Social Sciences, as saying. It will be the new growth point and a logistics hub, he added.
