Chicago, Dec 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The owners of The Chicago Sun Times are expected to announce the sale of the newspaper on Wednesday. A group of local investors are at the forefront in the bid to take over the newspaper. This will be the second time in just over two years that the newspaper will be changing ownership.

Led by the chief executive of Merrick Ventures Michael Ferro, the group of local investors has reportedly offered to buy the newspaper for $20 million. Once the takeover is completed, the investors are expected to name former Newsday CEO Timothy Knight as the new CEO of the newspaper.

The takeover follows the death of former CEO Jim Tyree early this year. He was instrumental in saving the newspaper from going under in 2009 when he led a group of investors to take over the company. They invested $25 million into the business and got it running again. The newspaper has since undergone several radical changes and made some harsh decisions including drastically cutting down workforce and outsourcing their printing in a bid to reduce cost.

With the development of the Internet, the newspaper still suffers because of loss of advertisers. It is not currently clear if the decision to sell the newspaper is due to revenue challenges.
