Chhattisgarh to raid onion traders
December 28th, 2010 - 9:07 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, Dec 28 (IANS) The Chhattisgarh government has asked collectors of all 18 districts to check soaring prices of onions by raiding those hoarding the commodity, officials said Tuesday. The retail price of onions shot up to Rs.60 per kg this month but is now down to Rs.40 per kg — still out of reach for most people.
The government says it has enough stock to keep prices below Rs.20 per kg but traders are said to be stocking up to create scarcity.
