Chhattisgarh eyes 5.5 mn tonnes paddy procurement
November 24th, 2011 - 11:32 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, Nov 24 (IANS) Chhattisgarh, one of the country’s leading paddy producing states, has set a procurement target of 5.5 million tonnes in the current season, an official said Thursday.
“Procurement has already started from Nov 5 by the state government and we are encouraged by the amount of paddy the farmers are bringing daily to over 1,850 procurement centres in all the 18 districts,” an official with the agriculture department said.
The state government has been paying Rs.1,080 per quintal for common variety and Rs.1,111 per quintal for grade-A quality paddy.
