Chennai to host exhibition on hospital needs

Chennai, July 30 (IANS) Medicall, the Indian organisation that organises medical exhibitions, will organise its next three-day exhibition on hospital needs here from August 1 onwards. Addressing the media here Wednesday, Dr. Manivannan, CEO, Medicall said: “Around 200 manufacturers of medical equipment are expected to display their products. More than 5,000 hospital owners are expected to visit the exhibition.”

The ensuing event will be Medicall’s third edition and this time a seminar on hospital infrastructure will also be organised where leading architects are expected to participate.

According to Dr.Manivannan, more than Rs.50 million worth of business was transacted in the past two editions of the conference.

He said the healthcare industry is likely to grow from the present Rs.760 billion to Rs.1780 billion by 2012.

The medical equipment industry at Rs.96 billion in 2006 is growing at 15 per cent per year and is estimated to touch Rs.216 billion by 2012.

Currently, over 65 per cent of the country’s demand for medical equipment is met through imports.

Besides corporates, global private equity and venture capitalists are also exploring opportunities in the Indian healthcare industry, he added.
