Chandigarh’s Sukhna Lake gets souvenir shop
February 15th, 2011 - 10:08 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Feb 15 (IANS) Tourists coming to Chandigarh can take back with them the memories of “City Beautiful” as Sukhna Lake, the most famous tourist destination in the city, Tuesday gets a souvenir shop and tourist information centre.Key chains, coffee and beer mugs, T-shirts and neck-ties would be among the souvenirs to be sold at the shop. Other memorabilia to be sold at the shop relate to the life and works of famous French architect Le Corbusier, who designed Chandigarh in the 1950s.
“The purpose of opening this shop is to popularise the architectural heritage and modern art of Chandigarh all across the world,” said the official spokesperson of Chandigarh administration Tuesday.
“Foreign tourists and visitors can explore souvenirs, depicting the work of Corbusier. This shop has around 50-60 souvenirs and their price ranges between Rs.21-7,000,” he said.
The memorabilia include cushion covers, table lamps, T-shirts, piggy banks, cups, paper weights and puzzle games.
“The souvenir shop also has a section of tourist information centre where city guides and brochures of various tourist spots would be available,” added the spokesperson.
