Chandigarh, March 17 (IANS) The Chandigarh Golf Club (CGC), whose golf course was the learning ground for one of the top international golfers from India Jeev Milka Singh, Thursday saw its water supply being disconnected by local municipal authorities for non-payment of dues.

The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh Thursday disconnected the water supply to the club for non-payment of dues for the last five years amounting to Rs.642,400, a MCC spokesman said here.

MCC Commissioner Roshan Sunkaria ordered the disconnection of the water supply to the golf club.

“This decision has been taken by the municipal corporation after non-clearance of the dues even after a number of reminders to the golf club,” the spokesman added.

Rated among the elite golf clubs of the country, the CGC has been home to several champion golfers in the country, including Jeev Milkha Singh, woman golfer Irina Brar and Gaganjit Bhullar.

Besides its 18-hole course, the CGC also has a flood-lit 9-hole golf course and a flood-lit driving range.

The club, established in 1962, is frequented by the high and powerful people of Chandigarh - the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana and headquarters of the union territory of Chandigarh.

Its members include top sports personalities, bureaucrats, politicians, police officials, senior defence officials and leading businessmen.
