Chandigarh cheers budget bounty

Chandigarh, Feb 28 (IANS) The general budget for 2011-12 presented by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has increased allocation to this union territory by nearly 47 percent, a move heartily welcomed by city administrators.”Government of India has increased the plan budget allocation by nearly 47 per cent and has fixed the ceiling of plan budget to Rs.661.89 crore as compared to current year’s budget allocation of Rs.450.91 crore,” the spokesperson of Chandigarh administration said here Monday.
Talking about the sectoral allocations for the year 2011-12, the spokesperson said: “Rs.113.09 crore has been earmarked for the education sector as compared to Rs.89.72 crore of the previous year. Health sector’s allocation has been enhanced to Rs.85.04 crore against Rs.63.04 crore. Besides, Rs.16.50 crore will be spent for developing Chandigarh as a ‘model solar city’.”
A sum of Rs.13 crore has been assigned for police modernisation and Rs.15.98 crore has been proposed for the development of sports and youth activities in Chandigarh, the spokesperson added.
