CESC gears up to handle 3,000 MW distribution capacity
July 27th, 2012 - 10:22 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, July 27 (IANS) CESC Ltd, an R.P.-Sanjiv Goenka Group company, Friday said it is gearing up for building the back-end infrastructure which would be capable of handling distribution capacity of 3,000 MW power in the next five years.
“We have to think ahead of our times. Thus we are aiming to have a distribution capacity of 3,000 MW in the next five years. We will be investing around Rs.1,500 crore in Kolkata itself,” CESC Ltd vice president Sanjiv Goenka told reporters after the company’s annual general meeting here.
The Kolkata-based company has submitted it bids for a distribution project in Jharkhand.
“We are bidding for distribution licences for Dhanbad, Ranchi and Jamshedpur,” Goenka informed.
He said construction work for the 600 MW Chandrapur project in Maharashtra was on schedule and was likely to get commissioned by end of 2013.
Construction for another 600 MW project at Haldia in West Bengal has also started and the date of commissioning has been scheduled at November 2014.
The company has reported a net profit of Rs.125 crore in the first quarter of the current fiscal compared with Rs.111 crore in a year ago period.
“The first quarter has been good for us as our profit after tax (PAT) has increased by around 13 percent,” Goenka said.
