New Delhi, Mar 7 (ANI): The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today gave its approval forlaunching of the first phase of a central sector scheme on rejuvenation, modernization and technology upgradation of the Coir Industry.
This would be done at an overall cost of Rs.243 crore.
The Scheme envisages covering 4000 spinning units and 3200 tiny and household units during the Eleventh Plan.
Under the scheme, one existing obsolete ratt/unit would be replaced by four mechanized ratts and each new mechanized ratt will be handled by two against three workers and spinners, presently.
The entire intervention in the spinning sector is targeted to be women oriented.
The Scheme would help in increasing wages of spinner from Rs.6000 per annum to Rs.29896 per annum, income of weavers in tiny and household sector from Rs.21065 per annum to Rs.43230 per annum.
It would also help in increasing employment from 24000 to 60800. (ANI)
